TRAIL ARMOR

It's here, I received my Steering Stabilizer, Dust Kit, a robust set of Stick Stoppers for the A-arms, and the newest piece to help prevent my rear differential housing from cracking...the Rear Differential Support Bracket.   Their shipping was lightening fast, it was shipped on Monday at 6 Pm and I had it on my door step by noon Wednesday.

Alright here it goes. I have installed the stick stoppers and rear differential support bracket. I started to install the dust kit and I will post what I have done so far. I had to leave on Air Force business with a days notice and I will be back at the end of July and you can bet I will finish the dust kit and install the steering stabilizer.

Trail Armor Stick Stoppers
I will post more pictures when I get back from my trip. I had to rush out and this is all I could take with me. It should  give you a good start. 

Install time 40 minutes.  Probably less if you don't have to deal with phone calls.

The installation was super easy and took me 40 minutes to install them. I also had to install a lower A-Arm on the left side because my wife slammed it into a rock about two weeks after I bought it.  The sub par stock plastic stick stoppers didn't even come close to protecting it. 

These Trail Armor Stick stoppers are robust.  I started with the left side first. I installed it in about 10 minutes after changing the lower A-Arm. The Stick Stoppers bolts on to the A-Arm in three places. Two bolts use the stock holes and the third is a U shaped clamp that has a hole for the bolt on one side.  After all three points were cinched, I did a little fine tuning by making sure I had good clearance between the stick stopper and the rim. I tweaked the top of the front of the plate towards the back to ensure I had the perfect clearance.  After that it fit perfectly and I can turn the wheels to the stoppers on each side.  No rubbing and a big plus for me and so is the lack of rattles.  I can't wait to ram some brush with it. 

The installation went just as smooth for the other three locations and on the back it was actually a little easier then the front, because all you have to do is bolt them into place.

All the hardware was included and there is no need to get extras.  Trail Armor did a great job designing them and I am guessing it would have help prevented my wife's Rambo tactics on any immovable objects.  I will definitely get some really good use out of these, because I roll right through brush, briar patches and if there is along in the trail I just climb over it.

Installation tips:

  • Have all your tools ready.
  • Using socket sets speeds up the process and I recommend deep sockets and a 6 inch extension for your 3/8 in drive.

 

 

 

Trail Armor Rear Differential Support Bracket
This was a quick and easy install and the provided directions were right on target!

READ THIS CAUTION!!

Before you crank down on the bolt (provided in the kit), make sure you clean out all the threads. I used some gun oil on the threads of the bolt and worked it in until I could finger tighten it.  You might need to flush it out or use a air nozzle if it is packed full of dirt or dried mud.  Do this before you even try to put the bolt in. If you don't make sure you completely clean out the threads you could crack the differential housing.  Once this is done you are ready to go.  This caution is noted on their instructions. I make it a habit of reading the instruction first before I start any mode just make sure I don't make an expensive mistake...

I made sure the bolt would seat deep enough to secure the bracket and the spacers with a little left. I noticed that if you can screw the bolt in deep enough to where the threads are no longer visible or maybe one or two threads visible you should be good to go.  I was able to screw it in with my fingers and make all the threads disappear into the housing. 

Next, I rested the spacers on the bolt to make sure I would get a tight fit with the bracket.

Now for the drilling. You will have to remove the vent hose plastic holder for the differential, it will be the first hole drilled and it is the top hole.  

 

 

 I made a template for drilling and I will post a copy of it here so you can print it and use it when drilling the holes for the bracket. It worked like a charm.

 

 

Make sure you use a metal drill bit and I used some oil again the gun oil. Worked great! The drill bit size is a 5/16.

 

 

After the holes are drill I installed the bracket and started with the differential housing bolt and I did not tighten it all the way yet because I wanted some flexibility in the bracket to make sure I could get the two bolts inserted from the back.  Once they were install I then tightened the two bolts in the back first and finally the differential housing bolt. Walla it is installed!

 

I have to say the rear differential it is anchored after you do this mod. 

My Final note: the quality is excellent and the tolerances...perfect!
