One Bad Rhino installed the front bumper and clutch kit.  This should be a great couple of mods for the beast.  Black Rhino Performance is a great company and no doubt these will be great additions to the already bad machine.  I am going to give you a quick description of each item and why I chose it.  Although the pictures are from the Black Rhino Performance website One Bad Rhino will be shooting a few of our own.   www.onebadrhino.com is growing and will hopefully help in making your decision in what products to buy.

BRP Pre-Runner Front Bumper

My thoughts first and then a nice write up on the install.

I chose Black Rhino's Pre Runner Front Bumper and here's why.  I've cruised the web looking at a bunch of different front ends that could take punishment I dish out.  Black Rhino's Pre-Runner bumper has a great approach that doesn't take away from the ability to push right up on any incline whether it be rocks, dirt, or even a large bolder.  I am a big fan of their solid aluminum protection plate. Another big plus to this front end is the fact that the Black Rhino Performance logo cut out is high enough where you won't get a stick jamming through it, but yet it is positioned perfectly to let that healthy flow of air pass right through.

Now on to the construction...the 1 ½" construction throughout, and the ¼" 5052 aluminum bash plate look really solid!  Need I say more? Sure...surprisingly this combination appears to be heavy, but it is not I can carry it with one arm.  Next, I had to inspect the welds for quality quality and every weld had good wet-out and was tied-in at the toes of the weld, and the beads have a very consistent appearance.  Upon further inspection the welds are well balanced around the root of the joints and after this first look it just confirmed my decision to go with Black Rhino Performance Pre-Runner Front End.

Lastly, the Rhino comes stock with...well what I think are underwhelming head lights, the Pre-Runner Front Bumper is ready to be outfitted with four, yes four off-road lights.  When I save up enough money I will be mounting the four PIA lights on the grill of this dude! My belief is that you can never have to much light!

Well I finally installed it.  It took me about 20 minutes.  I say 20 minutes because I had a friend stop by and my kids were all over the Rhino.

Black Rhino Performance did an awesome job of lining things up.  I only had to give it a One Bad Rhino nudge once or twice to get the bolts to thread into place.

Tools needed

11/16 Socket

9/16 Socket

5/16 Socket

You can use a 3/8 inch drive if you want or a 1/2 inch drive.  I chose to use both.  For the 11/16 Socket I used a 1/2 inch driven and for the 9/16 and the 5/16 inch socket I used a 3/8 inch drive.

The main bolt at the base take a 11/16 socket and backed out pretty easily.

The upper bolts used a 9/16  socket and you can access it from the front or lift the hood. I found either way to be just as easy.

The bolts on the skid plate use a 5/16 socket and are located right on the front of the bumper.

After I removed all the bolts I had one small question on what to do with the front skid plate portion that use to connect to the stock bumper.  After lining up the BRP Pre-Runner bumper I figured out that you can just place it behind the bumper.  It fits perfectly in between the bumper and the frame and I don't see it pulling out.

OK, next I placed the bumper into place and then I used my fingers to screw the main lower bolts into place and the the uppers. I then leaned against the bumper to get the upper mounts to seat flush against the frame.  I then tightened the upper bolts (9/16) and called them done.  I then tightened the lower bolts (11/16) and called them done.

With it all said and done, I do have to say this was a very easy install and it could be done in about 10 minutes if you have all the tools ready and the time dedicated without interruptions none would even know you were gone.  One other note is that if you wanted to install this Pre-Runner Bumper while you were on an outing it would be no problem.  What I mean by this is if you got the bumper and through it in just before you left for a on trip you could install it at a rest stop or at your camp.

To Black Rhino...Thanks for the Bumper and I know your products are performance based and will stand up to tons of abuse.  I plan to abuse it so be ready for some photo so be sure to check my photo section.

On the left you can see the final product and if you are wondering about the square opening in the middle, its for a winch and they have done a great job of preparing it for a nice fairlead and winch to be mounted. 4000 pound winch  here I come.

Bottom line: Solid well made Pre-Runner bumper very easy to install and ready for the trail.  Nice clean welds and sweet powder coat job makes this a nice addition to your Rhino and great mod for added protection.  You get what you pay for!  I can't wait to add a nice set of PIA lights to finish it off.

I hope this will help you in your decision and Black Rhino won't let you down! Feel Free to e-mail me with any questions. bambam@onebadrhino.com

 Performance CVT Clutch Kit

One Bad Rhino adds a clutch kit.

Getting a clutch kit was one of the first mod I wanted to do. Yamaha builds the Rhino to meet a majority of the customers needs.  So it might not be right for everyone.  I live at 4700 feet and I roll up to 8k-9k in the mountains.  My goal is to pull off the line like I'm at the tractor pulls.  Low and torque in my mind it the ticket.  It really helps when crawling and ripping off the start.  Top end to me not a big factor and this kit won't affect it anyway, if it does it might only reduce top speed by a mile an hour or two.

Here is how it works...when you romp on the gas the engine starts to increase the RPM's at which time the clutch starts to engage.  If the clutch engages at to low of an RPM you won't get that launch of the line. It will have to build up a little more speed/RPMs to get the clutch to really take hold.  This clutch kit is designed for higher altitudes and this will allow the engine to reach a higher RPM before it engages.  As everyone knows RPM's means power.  So slam the gas and an few extra potatoes later the RPM's reach a  higher level than stock before the clutch takes hold.  This is my favorite part about the clutch kit...the Rhino launches as the raw power now gets where it needs to be...at the tires.  Bang for the buck, I think this mod will be a worth while investment.

Since this is moving part I wanted to make sure that I roll the best.  Black Rhino Performance again stands out in my mind a leader, so that's why I ordered it from them.  I know these guys are always out testing their products so they are not just selling a design they are selling what's proven!!

Well I have the clutch installed and I am really pleased. The first the biggest thing I noticed is that as soon as I hit the gas I am rolling. The RPM's run up a little higher and I am off. This is huge at the higher altitudes. I can't wait to hit the dunes with it and do some high altitude riding. Black Rhino Performance has done it again. As for the top speed I did see a small drop and it was only about 2 miles an hour based on my test run. So for me that is fine. I like the hole shot it gives me and speed is not my game...

Black Rhino Performance Never ceases to amaze me!!!! Great product and the price is perfect!!
